Here is my interview with these two gorgeous ladies - Lisi and Vera.

1. Hello, girls! We are happy that you are part of Brave Folks. Would you like to share with us how it all started? When did you find out baking is your passion and that you want to do exactly this?

We’ve always loved baking and we’ve been doing it for a long time, long before we met in 2012. It all started with our “Pop Up Bakeries”. Our friends and families were the first people to try and express their opinion whether our cakes were great or not so much, but eventually we needed to find new audience. That’s how the idea of the first public pop up bakery was born. After that we attended the “Meisterprüfungs-Kurs für Konditoren und Zuckerbäcker” at WIFI Graz. Last year after we both graduated from University we decided that we want to turn our passion into business and “bake” for a living. That was the moment we made the decision to build our own company - Mehlspeisenfräulein.

2. Who taught you the art of baking and at what age did you bake your first cake?

We think we got our passion for baking from our mothers and grandmothers.

Lisi: For sure it was my mother, who taught me how to bake and make the best out of the ingredients. But I really can’t remember the exact age.

Vera: I think I baked my first cake together with my mum when I was in primary school. From that moment on I started making birthday cakes for my friends.

3. How did you meet and how did you decide to start “Mehlspeisenfräulein” together?

We met in 2012 at the university, but our common passion is what brought us together. We wanted to try something new and to create something together. We created a facebook page, came up with a name for our company, created a Logo – and that’s it, Mehlspeisenfräulein was born. And then we had our first “Pop Up Bakery” in Lisi’s apartment. We sold everything in just one hour and that was really amazing experience for both of us, simply because it gave us courage and confidence that people like our pastries.

4. What do you like most about running your own bakery shop?

Lisi: That I can do what I love and make people happy.

Vera: Being able to do what you love. I also like the feeling of being my own boss (which also means being responsible for everything). And I really like talking about the design/look of cakes, especially wedding cakes :)

5. What sets “Mehlspeisenfräulein” apart from other bakeries?

We pay more attention to our customers and try to really understand what they want. Due to our personal consulting we create the perfect cake for everyone. If you order a cake, you can “mix&match” the preferred dough with the filling of your choice. There are (almost) no limits and you can give your imagination the freedom to create one extraordinary cake.

We love to create customized cakes with unique design and taste for all our customers, doesn’t matter if it’s a birthday cake, baptism cake or a wedding cake. We are also very proud of the fact that we use high quality, organic products and you can definitely taste the difference. We also meet our customers’ needs when it comes to intolerance to specific products, we bake gluten-free and lactose-free cakes and pastries, as well.

6. How does the baking and the whole process of making these amazing cakes make you feel?

It’s a very good feeling knowing that you create something that makes people happy. Let’s take, for example, a birthday cake. Seeing that happy face and broad smile when the costumer gets their cake – it’s a really great feeling and at that moment we are thankful for everything we do and for the opportunity to make life a bit sweeter.

7. Is there a particular cake you are most proud of?

That’s a difficult question. In general, we can say that we are proud of every cake we’ve ever made. For sure, there are some you like more and other less, but we always give our best.

8. What are your future plans?

We both have this idea of writing a baking book together. That's going to be our next big project, but for now we’ll leave it for the future.
