Wine is the only artwork you can drink.
— Luis Fernando Olaverri.

Wine is many things to many people – to some it is a passion, hobby, career, beverage or great meal accompaniment, to some it could be an investment or simply a nice way to take away from the hustle of everyday life.

For me personally since I am not much of a drinker anyway I really enjoy wine as a good compliment to a nice dinner, or a chill evening with friends. I have always had this perception of wine as if it is very classy and stylish drink that goes well with almost every occasion.
Regardless of all that is said above there are some magical places around the world where this
“ artwork” is created so here I have made my own collection of the best wineries.
Most of us when we think of the best wineries in the world, we all probably have this romantic idea of a winery in France, stretching across rolling hills or maybe Marlborough Sound in New Zealand, said to be home to some of the best wine from a cool climate or perhaps some Spanish-style ranch. Whatever your idea is, a good winery often goes with a beautiful landscape of a magnificent building, just the perfect match, so as a result the best wineries in the world aren’t that far from some of the world’s most beautiful places as well as some of the most magnificent buildings.

Château Margaux, France

Located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, considered to be one the top of its class since 1855, tho it was well recognized long before 1855 and so far HAS BEEN AROUND FOR MORE THAN 300 YEARS.
Interesting fact is that during the time of Napoleon III , Margaux was the only estate given a 20/20 rating. Even Thomas Jefferson was into it and according to him, “There are four vineyards of prime quality and on the first place is Château Margaux ”. Really impressive, but of course there is much more to this incredible place and the story behind it so feel free to dig a little and I will be curious to learn what other interesting facts you have discovered.

MARQUES DE RISCAL, Spain

Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest Rioja wineries. Founded in Elciego (Álava) in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga, and it has been a point of reference in the wine-making business at both national and international level ever since.

Undoubtedly the amazing building designed by the famous Frank O. Gehry, capture people’s attention as an embodiment of harmony, innovation and sensations. The Hotel Marqués de Riscal, A Luxury Collection Hotel  merges deep rooted wine-growing tradition with twenty-first century design.

CHATEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU, France

Designed by famous Parisian architect Paul Abadie, this Bordeaux Chateau is so beautifully iconic that like Chateau Margaux, it also graces the wine’s label.
Interesting fact is that the daughter of Mick Jagger- Jade, designed the label for what some would call the estate’s second wine, Croix de Beaucaillou. At first the label was used only on a limited edition consisted of only 50 bottles but now it has been used for the entire production of 2010, 2011 and 2012 vintages.

Bodega Sommos, Spain

One of the most modern wineries in Spain, the building is supposed to resemble a butterfly. The modern architectural building is simply stunning. The fountain in front of the building adds to the spectacular view. It is impressive and is surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see.
This winery combines architecture, modernity and design with exclusive and high quality wines into a perfect harmony.

Lavaux Vineyrds, Switzerland

The Lavaux Vineyards lie along 30km of the shores of Lake Geneva and can be traced back to the 11th century and it is considered to have one of the best locations in the world as well as it is UNESCO World Heritage site.

Many other amazing wineries could be added to this small collection so feel free to share in the comments below if you have ever visited a winery, which sort of wine is your favorite or maybe you have some other interesting facts in your pocket?
